Waiting outside the dialysis room: My father was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD stage V) two and half years ago. It was extremely difficult to believe that fact and for a quite a little long time life was chaotic. We still hope for some miracle like an idiots that one day he shall be healthy again. After the diagnosis the treatment options available to us was either to undergo a Kidney transplant from compatible donor sharing same blood line or to take Hemodialysis twice per week with each session of 4hrs. After quite a struggle we got my father’s name registered in Human Organ transplant Center, which is the cheapest and well equipped dialysis centre in the country, for hemodialysis session. Yeah, it was quite a struggle because the number of patients with chronic kidney disease just keep on rising each day while there are limited resources at the hospital. There are three shift running, morning shift from 8 am to 12 pm, afternoon shift from 12 pm to 4 pm and evening s...

Walking HuMLA

Walking Humla…………………….. I still remember the first lecture of my transportation engineering class of BE where my respected teacher Mr. Mohan Dhoj KC began with the importance of transportation for overall socio-economic development of the community. I couldn’t agree any less with his view and every other person in the class would totally agree with the importance of transportation facilities for overall development.  Being born in Damauli, district headquarter of Tanahun and moving to Kathmandu, The capital city for higher education I didn’t face any difficulties in travelling as there was perfect black topped road connecting Damauli and Kathmandu. This might probably justifies my indifference with the situation that a community/ district has to bear in absence of transportation until I travel to Humla as part of my job duty station. Humla is one of the 2 remaining district of Nepal without any road linked with National transport network of the country. I ha...

Menstruation Blockade:It exists everywhere........

I was aware that at some parts of my country girls and women have to sleep outside home during Menstruation. This practice is named as Chaupaddi. Basically, In Chauppadi, girls & women during menstruation have to stay outside home in cowshed and are not allowed to enter kitchen and take part in religious activities.  I had read about Chauppadi in some newspaper and I felt bad about it for sometimes after reading the  news but I eventually forget about it and I was back to my normal life as in my Home I am allowed to enjoy all the luxuries like sleeping in cozy bed with blankets on even when i am in my period. I am allowed to enter kitchen. Of course one has to maintain cleanliness and hygiene during period. The real tragedy was to witness the Chaupaddi and even forced to follow the practice by my landlord while I was transferred to Darma VDC of Humla as a part of my job. When my landlord put forward the idea that I should also follow the chauppadi if I live there, I was ...
