Bad is defined as worse, worst unpleasant and causing difficulties or harm by Cambridge Dictionary. While Characterless is defined as a characterless person or thing is not interesting or has no style or unusual qualities. These both words sounds similar but are carefully used to express completely different situation. Bad is somewhat like light version for Characterless.

It really bothers me how word characterless is always used for women while man easily gets away with being tagged as Bad. Characterless is used for women who according to society fails to adhere to the standard norms and rules made by society. On the other hand there has never been Characterless man because society has never outlined the standard norms and rules for man. I have plethora of evidence to support myself regarding this matter. I have seen how a women is categorized as Characterless if she doesn’t play along with the set of rules and regulations made by the hypocritical society which talks about equality in broad daylight and then whisper in dark “oh she is just a girl how she could possibly do that”. Then it made me think who society is??? Aren’t we part of society so how come I stay clean when I am accusing the very society of being hypocrite?

Women are carefully scrutinized for the dress she wear, way she talk, for having boyfriend or boyfriends, for having sex before marriage, for drinking, for smoking, for late night partying etc. People spontaneously pass their random judgment for the women who fails to fit into the ideal version of women. Well Ideal Women is someone who is soft spoken, who is perfect in household chores, who do not dare to have boyfriend as she has to have arranged marriage in future. While society is never strict in putting restrictions over man. I know how a widow remarriage is rare while society force down widower into remarrying for taking care of his children. I know how a girl who dares to live on her own terms and is very candid with boys is never accepted with respect within society. But a boy who is involved in multiple love affairs is never really bothered with. The way women and man are dealt under the social X-ray is completely different. I feel like the ideals and fundamentals the society is built upon still assure us that there is difference between man and women.

I think freedom is the most valuable thing that we possess. But at the same time awareness in utilizing one’s freedom giving due respect to right practice is again very important. We need to understand that a wrong deed will always be wrong irrespective of the gender of the doer. We also need to be sensible enough before accusing someone characterless.
